Penny on the Move are excited to share this important leadership update, reflecting our continued growth and commitment to excellence across all facets of our business. Please join us in welcoming Martin Wheller & Chris Jones to our management team.
Martin Wheller joins us as our new Chief Financial Officer. Most recently Financial Director at ScS Group plc. Martin joined ScS following its IPO on the FTSE and over his 9-year tenure saw the business through significant growth, an acquisition, COVID, and a sale and delisting. A Chartered Accountant, Martin has many years of relevant experience in financial leadership roles and within retail, and brings a wealth of knowledge in financial planning, risk management, and strategic growth.
As Chief Financial Officer at Penny on the Move, Martin will lead the finance team, overseeing the reporting of financial planning and performance together with risk management, and work alongside the CEO and CCO to drive business strategy and growth.
“Penny Petroleum has grown to be a significantly sized business, and a key part of my role is to partner with the relevant operational personnel to help provide financial guidance and bring a commercial lens to ensure we are focused on the key priorities and opportunities. Helping the business grow on the top line, but also becoming more efficient when considering costs, with the aim of becoming more profitable is also key. I’m honoured to join as CFO. This is a company with a strong mission and exciting prospects, and I’m looking forward to contributing to its continued success” said Martin.
Martin will play a key role in shaping the financial strategy that supports our long-term vision. Working closely with the executive team, Martin will help ensure sustainable growth and sound financial governance as we continue our growth.
Chris Jones takes on the Regional Manager Role – West and over the next six months is on secondment to cover the East region too while some internal project work is completed. Chris has a real passion for retail having worked in the industry since he was 14 and took a part-time position at Woolworths! Known for his strategic insight and strong leadership capabilities, Chris is the result of an internal promotion given his proven track record in driving operational excellence and fostering high-performing teams.
Chris’s experience now spans 37 years with a mix of hospitality and mainline retailing which will come in useful as he will oversee regional operations, customer engagement, and business development efforts. He will be instrumental in delivering our goals for expansion and enhancing service delivery across all of Penny Petroleum’s 97 fuel sites.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Penny on the Move at such an exciting time,” said Chris. “I get a real sense of achievement working with my team and the wider company knowing that we are all pulling in the same direction. I am part of the senior management team within the company and collaboration is a huge part of how we work to drive improvements within our business. I have only been with the business for a short period of time before I was approached with an amazing secondment opportunity. There’s incredible momentum here, and I look forward to working with the talented regional teams to continue building on this success.”
These appointments come at a pivotal moment for Penny on the Move. The leadership of Martin and Chris will be vital as we move into the next phase of our journey, and we’re confident their expertise will have a significant impact on our organization.
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to both!
