Penny on the Move is proud to announce the launch of its new apprenticeship scheme, marking an important step forward for the business and its people. As a forecourt and convenience retailer, frontline colleagues play a pivotal role in delivering great customer service every day, and Penny on the Move is committed to providing clear, accessible career pathways that enable everyone to grow and progress within the organisation.
By introducing apprenticeships specifically for existing colleagues, Penny on the Move is investing in the talent it already has and reinforcing its commitment to internal progression and continuous development. The programme offers a wide range of opportunities, from Level 2 apprenticeships for colleagues in frontline and operational roles through to leadership development programmes for those preparing to take on greater responsibility. By combining nationally recognised qualifications with practical, on-the-job learning, the scheme supports individual growth while strengthening the long-term capability and resilience of the business.
Commenting on the launch, Tim Coid, Head of People at Penny on the Move, said:
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Lifetime Training to deliver our apprenticeship programmes. Having worked with the team previously, I was confident in their ability to support us in building high-quality, meaningful apprenticeship pathways that align with both our people strategy and the needs of the business.”
Throughout the setup process, Lauren Murray, Senior Business Development Manager at Lifetime Training, worked closely with the Penny on the Move team to shape practical, accessible programmes tailored to both store-based and leadership roles. This collaborative approach played a key part in the successful launch of the apprenticeships, ensuring development opportunities that genuinely support long-term career progression across the organisation.
Lauren Murray said:
“We are delighted to be partnering with Penny on the Move to support colleague development through apprenticeships. Through close collaboration and alignment, we’ve created exciting career pathways with tailored support at every stage of the journey, giving colleagues the tools and skills, they need to develop and grow within the business.”
This initiative represents a significant milestone in Penny on the Move’s commitment to workforce development. By offering a blend of formal education and hands-on experience, the programme enables participants to build valuable skills, gain recognised qualifications, and earn a competitive salary from day one.
Speaking about the impact of the scheme, Emma Shell, Head of Compliance and Business Development at Penny on the Move said:
“Ongoing learning and development are so important for all colleagues. While training has traditionally focused on store teams to support the best possible customer experience, the introduction of cross-company apprenticeships has opened the door for other teams to gain valuable skills and knowledge. I’m really excited to support my team on this journey and to see how their learning can be used across the wider business to better support our store and operations teams.”
Colleagues taking part in the programme have already shared their enthusiasm with Marcus Bradley, Store Leader commenting:
“I chose the Level 4 Retail Manager apprenticeship to deepen my knowledge in my role and to better support my team, site, and the wider business. I’m really looking forward to getting started.”
While Hannah Smith, Risk and Protection Leader at Penny on the Move added:
“I chose the Level 5 Coaching Professional apprenticeship because it closely aligns with both my current role and my aspirations. It’s an opportunity to build confidence in my leadership practice and develop a deeper understanding of coaching styles, helping me better support colleagues with different needs and perspectives.”
Apprenticeships at Penny on the Move are designed to be a true win-win—providing colleagues with clear career pathways while bringing fresh ideas, skills, and energy into teams. More than filling roles, the programme is about building a loyal, skilled workforce that reflects the business’s values and long-term vision. By investing in its people, Penny on the Move is creating opportunities that are good for colleagues, good for customers, and good for the future of the business.
