Penny on the Move has raised £14,007.83 so far, for the Different Strokes Charity, following a heartfelt fundraising campaign launched in memory of colleague and friend, Gwyneth, who sadly passed away after suffering a stroke in October 2023.
The Charity Tub initiative brought together employees, customers, partners and members of the local community who all contributed towards the fund raising.
Gwyneth had been part of the team at Penny on the Move Redwood store for around 35 years and was a highly regarded and dedicated member of the team. Vicky Hennessy, Chief Executive Officer at Penny on the Move, said:
“Losing Gwyneth was devastating for everyone at Penny on the Move. Gwyneth was a much-loved colleague and friend, and we wanted to do something meaningful in her memory. The support we’ve received from staff, customers and the wider community has been incredible, and we’re proud to be able to support the important work carried out by Different Strokes.”
Funds raised will help Different Strokes to continue providing support services, rehabilitation assistance, research and awareness programmes for stroke survivors and their families. Different Strokes promotes independent stroke recovery, so younger stroke survivors can reclaim their lives and is run by younger stroke survivors for younger stroke survivors.
“We are extremely grateful to Penny on the Move for their generosity and support during such a difficult time” said Jo Caeser, Fundraising Manager at Different Strokes. “Donations like these help us continue delivering vital services to people affected by stroke.”
Penny on the Move hopes the campaign will encourage more people to learn about the signs of stroke and support ongoing efforts to improve prevention, treatment and recovery.
