Ringing the Changes at Penny on the Move

If you haven’t already read this article from the Forecourt Trader, you should. Penny on the Move has experienced huge growth over recent years, with its portfolio rising from 14 forecourts a decade ago to around 100 today. Now, big changes are afoot at the top, so Forecourt Trader caught up with our new CEO, Vicky Hennessy, to find out what’s what.

Vicky ends this article with the comment that on a more personal level she is aware that as a woman she is something of a minority at her level of seniority and that she is determined to be an advocate for women in the industry, making the statement that “There aren’t enough of us in senior roles. I am proud to be an advocate of women in this industry.” Could this be Vicky “ringing the changes” for a growing presence and the influence of women not just at Penny on the Move, but also in all corporate and entrepreneurial worlds?

For decades, women have been pushing against institutional and cultural barriers that limited their participation in business. Across industries, women are leading startups, steering multinational corporations, and advocating for sustainable, inclusive growth.

This shift is not just symbolic. McKinsey & Company reports that companies in the top quartile for gender diversity on executive teams are 25% more likely to experience above-average profitability. Diversity isn’t just about optics; it’s about results. Women bring different perspectives to leadership, often emphasising collaboration, long-term strategy, and emotional intelligence—qualities that are increasingly essential in the modern workplace.

Mentorship, flexible work models, transparent pay structures, and investment in women-led enterprises are critical tools for continuing this transformation. Equally important is the cultural shift, but that seems to have already happened at Penny on the Move, given Vicky’s new role as CEO! The bells are ringing. The rhythm of business is changing. And as more women take the lead, the tune grows richer, more dynamic, and more representative of the world it seeks to serve.
